The Best Lightweight Strollers Are The Lightest

The best lightweight strollers are not usually the cheapest units to be found. However it’s also not always the most expensive either. There are some things thought that I think you really need in a lightweight stroller. I think it’s fair to say that the best lightweight stroller is simply the one that, is, not surprisingly, the lightest.
Lightweight Strollers Should Be Light
My number one criteria is that the stroller be light, first and foremost. When I went shopping for ours, one of the reasons was because I was sick of slugging our main stroll in and out of our van for just a trip to the mall or boulevard for a walk. I’m not a small guy, but I still didn’t like doing it. My wife liked it even less.
Maclaren Volo Stroller Lightweight
The Maclaren Volo Stroller Lightweight was the stroller we settled on. First of all it’s as beautiful as it is stylish. It’s a great choice for a few reasons, not the least of which it’s available in more than one colour. So many strollers of this size just come in one colour and some of them are silly colours that make you feel that way. You can get the funky green and pinks with the Volo, but you don’t have to if you don’t want to.
Super Light
The visual Maclaren Volo Stroller Lightweight defines the term lightweight strollers. This thing is 8.8 pounds! There are lots of babys that weighed more than that when they were born! So needless to say the Maclaren passes the lightness test with flying colours. A few more essential features are as follows:
- Under 9 Pounds
- Can Carry Up To 55 Pounds – You wouldn’t think a stroller that looks so slight could carry so much. Lots of jogging strollers aren’t rated for that much!
- One Hand Fold In About Five Seconds – One hand folding is essential for the best lightweight stroller in my opinion. If you have an unhappy child clinging on to you, the last thing you want to have to do is fight your stroller
- Has A Carrying Strap Handle – For those times when Junior just won’t deal with the stroller but you still have to haul it out of the mall.
- Includes A Rain Cover – It’s nice that they include this because we’ve all needed it at one point or another.
- Storage Basket – The Volo has a decent storage basket for a lightweight. A lot of the lightweight strollers don’t even have a basket.
- Decent Hood/Canopy – Again, a lot of lightweights don’t even have a hood or a canopy, much less a good sized on like this.
- Lockable Swivel Wheels, Foot Brakes – Locking those front wheels can be very handy when you don’t want them swinging around. If you are off the beaten track a little bit, it’s a nice feature
Not A Jogger
This is one stylish and feature rich stroller, BUT it’s not a jogger, not even light jogging, and it’s not an All Terrain stroller. This thing is for the mall, the sidewalk and that’s about it. I tend to buy strollers for the purpose and each individual purpose has it’s own. A jogging stroller for jogging, a lightweight for everday, a bike trailer for behind the bike and so on. You spend a lot of time with your stroller, you might as well make it easy on yourself.
